For Rexhep Rexhepi, the Tourbillon Regulator is the cornerstone of AkriviA’s brand. With subtle hand-finishing and the hours and minute hands on two separate axes of the dial, it is a demonstration of his extraordinary prowess as a master watchmaker.

The Tourbillon Regulator is a study in minimalism, where the myriad decorative elements are concealed subtly in the small details of the watch. A regulator counter displays the hours at 12 o’clock, whilst the central axis bears the minutes, and the seconds hand is fixed to the tourbillon at 6 o’clock. A chapter ring with dots for minute markers adds depth to the finely matte-polished grey dial, but otherwise the austerity of the exterior acts to draw attention to the wealth of finishes lavished on the movement.

The new single-barrel AK-04 caliber was developed and finished entirely by Rexhep and his team, and has been designed to ensure optimal visual balance and symmetry. The escapement block houses a 60-second tourbillon, Breguet balance spring and in-house balance wheel fitted with fine-adjustment inertia blocks. All visible and hidden components have been elaborately hand-finished using traditional methods including domed chamfering, circular graining and Côtes de Genève.

The Tourbillon Regulator is inspired by the traditional ‘school watch’ that a student of watchmaking must complete prior to graduating. Representing the culmination of a young watchmaker’s knowledge and skill to date, the apprentice will frequently work on this piece throughout their studies to illustrate their talent and artistry. Employing a similar approach, Rexhep chose to use the Tourbillon Regulator as an elegant demonstration of his phenomenal hand-craftsmanship and watchmaking savoir faire.
