ROSWELL VOYAGE
Stainless steel
The alleged flying saucer crash at Roswell in 1947 in New Mexico and the limitless nature of human endeavour are the two rather unusual inspirations for this slice of sci-fi style design.

Inspiration
Overview
Human limits of both the mind and the body are the inspiration for this amazing-looking watch. The Roswell, which launched in 2015, was solely inspired by the alleged alien landings that took place in the eponymous New Mexican town in 1947. The subtly elliptical shape of the case – a nod to the flying saucer – Star Trek-style font used for the 12, and the contrast of blue-on-silver all felt very Enterprise.
This limited-edition version keeps the otherworldly elements but renders them in more menacing black and silver and brings man back into the equation. This time there is a piece of rock from the Matterhorn, which was collected from this iconic Swiss peak at 3,100m by Schwarz-Etienne’s CEO, hermetically sealed against a sky-blue background on the back of the watch. It stands as a grounding contrast to the extraterrestrial influences seen on the rest of the timepiece. You don’t have to turn the watch over (or head to Zermatt) to see the legendary mountain. The micro-rotor, which indicates this watch contains the Irreversible ISE calibre 101.01, on the front of the dial has its outline engraved on it.
These dual threads of inspiration could have led to a mismatch of a watch, but Schwarz-Etienne have crafted them into a sophisticated, wearable timepiece. And that’s a frontier over which not many brands would have been able to have boldly gone.
Inspiration
The unearthly mixes with the terrestrial in a watch that showcases Schwarz-Etienne’s mechanical skill as well as their amazing design and wry sense of humour.
