Inspiration

Overview

In watch speak a beater is your trusty companion; a watch wears its scratches and dents with pride. That quintessential piece in a man’s watch wardrobe that never lets you down.

Schofield has taken this idea and given it a luxury twist. Don’t mistake the price as an indication that this watch is to be kept for best, this is a hard-wearing hunk of raw bronze that has been blasted with a coarse medium, giving it a sparkly finish; rather like virgin snow waiting to receive its first footprint.

In true Schofield tradition, this watch is representative of all that is marine and seaworthy. If the case, which is a monobloc form machined in Sussex, down the road from Schofield HQ, is a marine craft waiting to set sail, the dial is representative of the sea itself in all its dark-blue depths.

Powering this paean to the high seas is the ETA 2824-2; a movement famous for being one of the most reliable democratic automatics around.

While this isn’t a watch to wear with a suit, it is one timepiece you will come back to time and again; appreciating the knocks and scratches as evidence of the adventures you’ve had together.

Inspiration

With his take on the beater, Schofield founder Giles Ellis wanted to take the anxiety out of wearing a luxury watch by creating something designed to be dented. And one that will only improve with age.

In The Know

“Schofield Watch Company, always cannily attuned to the culture of watch buying as well as the business, has taken [the beater] concept and turned it into a hipsterish luxury watch with plenty of potential to become an old friend.” QP Magazine

“Because much like a battered Chesterfield sofa, where the aged version is arguably more easy on the eye than fresh, this latest range of Schofield watches have been built to withstand being broken in – in fact, it’s encouraged.” Shortlist

“The greatest pleasure provided by the Beater is its ability to transform through the use of new bracelets. New strap, new watch ... this old adage has never been as true as with this simple and seductive watch.” Equation du Temps (translated from French)
