When Xavier de Roquemaurel, a luxury veteran, Harry Guhl, an art expert, and watchmaker Sebastian Follonier came together to revive the Czapek & Cie, they wanted to make sure that the designs of the new Czapekwatches had a direct aesthetic connection to the Czapeks of old. That meant using grand feu enamel, elongated Roman numerals, slim Fleur de Lys hands and the slightly unusual positioning of the subdials – at 4.30, showing the power reserve and calendar, and 7.30, which marks the seconds.

This steel version twists the codes and brings some fresh industrial touch to the classic design codes thanks to the two-tone dial mixing opalin with a natural brushed brass ring and the removal of Roman numerals. Developed with Chronode, the SXH1 calibre’s architecture is inspired by the pocketwatch’s historial movement and features a pair of open ratchets, an original detail that Czapek was keen to bring into the 21st century.

Named after the Geneva address where Francois Czapek based his atelier, this is a 21st-century modernisation of a classic 19th-century pocket watch.
