In watch speak, a beater is your trusty companion; a watch that wears its scratches and dents with pride. The quintessential piece in a man’s watch wardrobe that never lets you down.
Schofield has taken this idea and given it a luxury twist. Don’t mistake the price as an indication that this watch is to be kept for best, this is a hard-wearing hunk of bronze that has been pre-patinated using an acid-and-dye treatment specially devised by the brand’s founder and impresario Giles Ellis.
In true Schofield tradition, this watch is representative of all that is marine and seaworthy. If the case, which is a monobloc form machined in Sussex, down the road from Schofield HQ, is a marine craft battered by salt water, the dial is representative of the sea itself in all its dark-blue depths.
Powering this paean to the high seas is the ETA 2824-2; a movement that is famous for being one of the most reliable, democratic automatics ever made.
While this isn’t a watch to wear with a suit, it is one timepiece you will come back to time and again; appreciating the knocks and scratches as evidence of the adventures you’ve had together.
The notion of an everyday wearer is given a rugged, marine-inspired twist with this gorgeous hunk of bronze from Schofield.
